Thanks to God for a Great GME

God blessed over 1,000 participants and volunteers with a truly global missions experience this past weekend at Tahkodah and HUT. Groups representing Lipscomb, Freed-Hardeman, Faulkner, Ohio Valley, Harding, Abilene, Lubbock, AIM, Oklahoma Christian, and several churches and campus ministries attended. We were drenched with rain twice during event, but God was glorified through the positive and daring attitudes of students who enjoyed the radical opportunity to discover what it would be like to live in countries around the world. Observers noted that there was relatively little milling around as students preferred to be immersed in the cycle of Bible study, learning stations, world market, and classes which had been planned for them. Keynote speakers spoke passionately about their areas of the world and shared stories from their countries of origin. Worship leaders from five different Christian universities coordinated and united to open our hearts and pour out praise to God. Each evening closed with campfires and story telling and even though the days were full and people were tired, the campfires, representing various areas around the world, were well attended. Friday evening the Iraqw Tanzanian team, which departs for the field in January, interviewed the Kalejin Kenyan Team on the occasion of its 30 year anniversary of the beginning of its work. The event culminated in the call to commitment Saturday evening when 132 young people made their commitment to become full-time longterm foreign or domestic missionaries. It was inspirational and heartening to see each one come forward, put their hand in paint, and then place it on the area of the world in which they intend to serve.
